TOUR TYPE: On-road touring · For adventurous riders. Five countries off the tourist track — including Albania, a land only now emerging from decades of isolation.

Southeast Europe Adventure

13 DAYS · 9 RIDING DAYS · 5 COUNTRIES

This is the road less travelled — the hidden treasure of Southeast Europe, ridden across thirteen days and five countries most motorcycle tours never reach. From Romania we head south through Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Albania and Serbia, deep into wild landscapes that sit far beyond the tourist track. This is real adventure riding, the kind you’ll talk about for years.

If you want a genuine off-the-beaten-path motorcycle adventure, this is it. You’ll conquer the snowcapped Gramoz Range in Albania at over 2,500 meters — riding a country only now emerging from decades of isolation — then drop to the Ionian coast with the sea on one side and mountains on the other. You’ll cross UNESCO World Heritage treasures like Bulgaria’s Rila Monastery and ancient Lake Ohrid, one of the oldest and deepest lakes on earth, before finishing on Romania’s two legendary mountain roads: the Transalpina, the highest paved road in the Carpathians at 2,145 meters, and the Transfăgărășan, 90 kilometres of hairpins once called the best driving road in the world.

This is touring done right: comfortable BMW GS adventure bikes, 4-star hotels every night, two full rest days to recharge, expert guides who know these roads, full van support for luggage and passengers, and a small group capped at just 8 motorcycles. Five countries, one unforgettable ride, far off the beaten path.

Five countries, off the beaten path.

An Off-the-Beaten-Path Motorcycle Tour of Southeast Europe

Southeast Europe Adventure is a thirteen-day, five-country motorcycle tour through the least-travelled corner of Europe — Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Albania, and Serbia. Starting and finishing in Bucharest and covering roughly 2,900 kilometers, this is the tour for riders who want genuine adventure: undiscovered roads, wild mountains, ancient lakes, and countries where tourism is only just beginning.

Ride Albania — Europe's last frontier

The heart of this tour is Albania, a country that spent decades sealed off under the isolationist dictator Enver Hoxha and is only now opening to travellers. You’ll ride its most serious mountains yet — the Gramoz Range, with snowcapped peaks over 2,500 meters — past the concrete bunkers left from the communist era, then down to the Ionian coast where the road runs with the sea on one side and mountains on the other. For adventurous riders who enjoy challenging roads and the thrill of countries new to tourism, this is the trip.

UNESCO treasures: Rila, Ohrid and beyond

This is a journey rich in history and natural wonder. You’ll cross Bulgaria’s Rila Mountains to visit the UNESCO-listed Rila Monastery, ride through the Pelister and Galičica national parks into North Macedonia, and reach Lake Ohrid — a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the oldest lakes in the world, known as the Pearl of the Balkans. A full rest day on its shores lets you walk the promenade, take a boat trip, or simply soak in the view.

    Finishing on Romania's legendary roads

After crossing back into Romania along the Danube — past the colossal 55-meter rock carving of the Dacian king Decebal in the Clisura Dunării gorge — you’ll enjoy a second rest day in Orșova before the grand finale: the Transalpina, the highest paved road in the Carpathians at 2,145 meters, and the Transfăgărășan, 90 kilometers of hairpins climbing to 2,042 meters. Two of Europe’s greatest roads to close an unforgettable trip.

Comfort and support across five countries

Thirteen days across five countries demands real support. You’ll sleep in 4-star hotels every night, ride a GS equipped with side and top cases, and travel with an experienced guide, detailed route sheets, 24-hour technical support, and a support van for luggage, souvenirs and passengers. Two full rest days keep you fresh, and with a maximum of 8 motorcycles the group stays small. It’s passenger-friendly too, with a dedicated passenger price — ideal for couples seeking a true adventure in comfort.

    Day by Day

    Day 1 — Bucharest arrival

Welcome to Romania! We pick you up from the airport and bring you to the hotel. Bucharest is a city of vibrant culture, art galleries, museums and a busy night life. Known as “Little Paris” for its reputation for the high life, Romania’s largest city and capital offers historical charm, museums, art galleries, exquisite Orthodox churches and unique architectural sites. Depending on your arrival time, you can visit the Palace of the Parliament (formerly the People’s Palace) — built to Nicolae Ceaușescu’s vision, it spreads across 3.76 million square feet and is the world’s second-largest building after the U.S. Pentagon. In the evening we meet for a welcome briefing, followed by a special welcome dinner where we discuss the tour ahead.

    Day 2 — Bucharest to Veliko Tarnovo · 220km

We leave the city behind and ride a spectacular road down to the Danube and into Bulgaria. Consider this a relaxed warm-up day, easing into the journey ahead and arriving in the historic city of Veliko Tarnovo.

    Day 3 — Veliko Tarnovo to Bansko · 330km

A beautiful day of wild landscapes and mountain roads. On the way we cross the Rila Mountains, stopping to visit the UNESCO-listed Rila Monastery — one of Bulgaria’s most important cultural and spiritual landmarks — before reaching Bansko.

    Day 4 — Bansko to Ohrid · 390km

We ride through the Pelister and Galičica national parks, crossing into North Macedonia. In the afternoon we reach Lake Ohrid, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the oldest lakes in the world. We spend the night in Ohrid town, with time for a walk along the promenade.

    Day 5 — Ohrid · rest day

It’s easy to see why Lake Ohrid is called the Pearl of the Balkans — an amazing, beautiful, peaceful place. Follow the walking trails around the lake, take a boat trip or kayak out on the water, or simply enjoy the stunning view from a restaurant on the promenade.

    Day 6 — Ohrid to Sarandë · 330km

In the morning we cross into Albania, a wild and beautiful country where tourism is only just beginning. We ride the most serious mountains of the tour yet — the Gramoz Range, with snowcapped peaks over 2,500 meters — and pass the concrete bunkers built during the communist era on our way to Sarandë.

    Day 7 — Sarandë to Shkodër · 350km

We start the day on the Ionian coast and ride north to Shkodër, hugging the shoreline with the sea on the left and mountains on the right. The sight of these peaks plunging into the Ionian Sea makes every kilometer worth it.

Day 8 — Shkodër to Kopaonik National Park · 280km

A fantastic day awaits. We ride through the Albanian Alps on challenging roads with beautiful, photo-perfect landscapes, then continue to Kopaonik National Park, crossing into Serbia. Kopaonik is Serbia’s largest mountain — we ride nice roads up to 1,700 meters, surrounded by peaks and extraordinary natural beauty.

    Day 9 — Kopaonik to Orșova · 310km

Today we ride back into Romania, following the Danube on a beautiful road with great landscapes. We pass through the Clisura Dunării — where the history of Romania begins — and the colossal rock-carved figure of the Dacian king Decebal, 55 meters high and 25 meters wide.

    Day 10 — Orșova · rest day

After the intense riding days, we’ve earned a break in Orșova. Back in Romania, it’s the perfect moment to recharge before conquering the Transalpina. In the morning you can take a boat trip on the Danube, exploring the spectacular Clisura Dunării and seeing Decebal’s statue from a different angle. Prefer tranquility? The Danube pontoon offers a perfect spot to relax with stunning views over the water, or the hotel pool awaits for complete unwinding. We rest, enjoy the peaceful town, and prepare for two final days on Romania’s most beautiful roads.

Day 11 — Orșova to Transalpina to Sibiu · 330km

We ride the Transalpina, the highest mountain road in the entire Carpathian chain — fantastic roads and beautiful serpentines at 2,145 meters, a perfect playground for demanding riders. We finish the day in Sibiu, the former Saxon city of Hermannstadt and a European Capital of Culture.

Day 12 — Sibiu to Transfăgărășan to Bucharest · 310km

Today belongs to the Transfăgărășan — 91 kilometers of pure riding bliss. Built at 2,042 meters over the Făgăraș Mountains, Romania’s highest range, it offers some of the most spectacular scenery in Europe. We finish in Bucharest with a goodbye dinner and a chance to share the best moments of the tour.

    Day 13 — Bucharest departure

Fully loaded with unforgettable experiences and memories ripe for storytelling, it’s time to head for the airport. We’ll see each other again on our next tour!
