Carpathian Mountain Roads
7 DAYS · 4 RIDING DAYS · 60% OFF-ROAD
They call the Transfăgărășan the best road in the world — and once it’s under your wheels, you’ll understand why. This is the motorcycle tour built around Romania’s two legendary mountain roads, the Transfăgărășan and the Transalpina, with something no road trip can offer: the wild off-road trails that connect them.
Over seven days from Bucharest you’ll ride 1,500 kilometers across the Carpathian Mountains — iconic asphalt serpentines climbing past 2,000 meters, then genuine gravel adventure through remote forest and high mountain passes. It opens with a full day of professional BMW Motorrad off-road training, so whether you’re new to dirt or a seasoned adventurer, you’ll be ready for everything that follows. Medieval Brașov, Bâlea Lake, the remote Strategica trail, four riding days of the best Romania has to offer — all fully supported, with a maximum of just 8 motorcycles on tour.
Smooth tarmac and rugged trail. Famous passes and hidden valleys. This is the Carpathians, ridden the way they were meant to be.
Transfăgărășan. Transalpina. And everything in between.

The Transfăgărășan, the Transalpina & the Wild Carpathians
Carpathian Mountain Roads is a guided motorcycle tour through Romania’s most famous and most beautiful mountain roads — including the legendary Transfăgărășan and Transalpina, two of the greatest driving roads on earth. Across seven days from Bucharest you’ll cover roughly 1,500 kilometers, blending iconic asphalt serpentines with genuine off-road adventure: about 60% of the route runs on gravel, forest track, and mountain trail.
Ride the legendary Transfăgărășan and Transalpina
This is the tour built around Romania’s icons. You’ll conquer the Transfăgărășan at 2,042 meters, with its spectacular hairpins climbing to Bâlea Lake, and ride the high, sweeping Transalpina — the highest road in the country. But unlike a road trip, we don’t stop at the asphalt: between the famous passes we drop onto challenging off-road trails, including the remote Strategica road, for a blend of smooth mountain riding and rugged adventure you won’t find on any standard tour.
Start with a full day of BMW off-road training
Before the adventure begins, you’ll spend a full day at Enduro Park MTT Merei with certified BMW Motorrad off-road instructors — balance, control, braking and acceleration across changing terrain. It’s what makes this tour open to all levels, from riders new to off-road to seasoned adventurers, and it sets you up to handle everything the Carpathians throw at you.
Medieval Brașov, mountain villages and four riding days
From the training park the route runs through some of Romania’s most storied places — the medieval Saxon city of Brașov with its labyrinth of cobbled streets, the heights of the Făgăraș range, Horezu, and Sibiu. Each of the four riding days mixes famous tarmac with authentic off-road: dirt roads, rocky sections, and steep serpentines at altitude. Every night ends in a comfortable 3- or 4-star hotel or mountain pension, with all dinners included.
Who this tour is for
Because it opens with a full training day, this tour welcomes all levels. You’ll ride a BMW F900GS, R1300GS, or R1300GSA, fully prepared and supported, with a maximum of just 8 motorcycles per group. What matters is the willingness to learn and the right protective gear — bring a certified full-face or motocross helmet, full body armor (back, shoulders, elbows, knees), quality gloves, and adventure boots. Mountain weather swings fast, so pack waterproofs and layers, and a hydration system for the long days.
Day by Day
Day 1 — Bucharest arrival
Welcome to Romania! We pick you up from the airport and bring you to the hotel. Bucharest is a city of vibrant culture, art galleries, museums and a busy night life. Known as “Little Paris” for its reputation for the high life, Romania’s largest city and capital offers historical charm, a wealth of museums and art galleries, exquisite Orthodox churches and unique architectural sites. Depending on your arrival time, you can visit the Palace of the Parliament (formerly the People’s Palace). Built to Nicolae Ceaușescu’s vision, it spreads across 3.76 million square feet and is considered the world’s second-largest building after the U.S. Pentagon. In the evening we meet for a welcome briefing at the hotel, followed by a special welcome dinner where we discuss the tour ahead.
Day 2 — Full-day off-road training at Enduro Park MTT Merei
Today we focus on preparing every participant for what the following days hold. At Enduro Park you’ll learn essential off-road skills like balance and control. In off-road riding the terrain is often unpredictable, and staying balanced on the motorcycle is essential — you’ll learn how to shift your weight, position yourself on the bike, and use your body to control the machine. You’ll also practice braking and acceleration techniques across different types of terrain.
Day 3 — Enduro Park MTT Merei to Brașov
After a training day, it’s time to discover the Carpathian mountain roads. Next stop: Brașov. In the evening we walk the labyrinthine cobbled streets of Brașov — one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval cities, built in the 12th-century Saxon period, with Gothic architecture and ancient charm.
Day 4 — Brașov to Transfăgărășan to Horezu
Today we conquer the legendary Transfăgărășan Road at 2,042 meters of altitude. Beyond the spectacular asphalt serpentines, we also explore challenging off-road trails in the area, adding real adventure to this iconic route. We’ll visit the stunning Bâlea Lake and experience a perfect blend of smooth mountain riding and rugged off-road sections through Romania’s highest peaks.
Day 5 — Horezu to Strategica to Sibiu
We continue the adventure onto the Strategica, riding through wild and challenging terrain in the Carpathians. Expect authentic off-road trails — dirt roads, rocky sections, and steep serpentines at impressive altitudes. This is a perfect playground for adventurous riders who crave technical challenges and want to truly test their skills, capturing the raw, untamed beauty of these remote mountain landscapes. We end the day with a ride on the famous Transalpina road.
Day 6 — Sibiu to Bucharest
We leave the beautiful mountains behind — but not before exploring once more the off-road areas they have to offer. An incredible week is about to end, but we’re delighted with everything we’ve seen, the memories created with the other riders, and the amazingly beautiful places we discovered.
Day 7 — Bucharest departure
Fully loaded with unforgettable experiences and memories from Romania, it’s time to head for the airport. We’ll see each other again on our next tour!
Iconic Roads, Real Off-Road
Transfăgărășan and Transalpina are bucket-list tarmac — and between them we ride the wild gravel most tours never touch.
