A Motorcycle Tour Through the Wild Balkans

Coast to Crest is an eight-day on-road motorcycle tour through three of the most spectacular countries in the Balkans — Croatia, Montenegro and Albania. Starting and finishing in Dubrovnik and covering roughly 2,100 kilometers, it links the wild peaks of Durmitor and the Albanian Alps with the turquoise waters of the Ionian and Adriatic coasts — a journey that pairs world-class riding with landscapes that few travelers ever see.

Mountain passes through Durmitor and the Albanian Alps

The heart of this tour is the mountains. From Dubrovnik we climb straight into Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO-listed wilderness of glacial lakes, deep canyons and peaks that break 2,500 meters. From there the route crosses into the Albanian Alps — raw, remote and endlessly winding — and later tackles the demanding Gramoz Range, where snow-capped summits tower above the road even in late spring. This is riding built on hairpins, switchbacks and passes, the kind of roads that make a motorcycle tour unforgettable.

Lake Ohrid, the Ionian coast and the Bay of Kotor

Between the peaks, the coast. You’ll reach Lake Ohrid — the Pearl of the Balkans, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the oldest and deepest lakes in Europe — with time to wander its churches and lakeside old town. Later the route drops onto the Ionian coast, riding with the sea on one side and the mountains on the other, past the ancient ruins of Butrint. The finale winds through Lovćen National Park and around the breathtaking Bay of Kotor, one of the most beautiful coastlines in the Mediterranean, before the return to Dubrovnik.

Three countries, one unforgettable loop

What makes Coast to Crest special is the sheer variety packed into eight days. You’ll cross three borders, ride from medieval walled cities to communist-era bunkers, from alpine snowfields to palm-lined beaches. Each day brings a completely different landscape, a different culture, a different flavour — and roads that keep delivering from the first hairpin to the last.

Day by Day

Day 1 — Dubrovnik · Arrival

Welcome to Dubrovnik! We meet for a welcome briefing at the hotel, followed by a special welcome dinner organized by us, where we discuss the tour ahead. Depending on your arrival time, there may be a chance to explore the medieval old town before we gather.

Day 2 — Dubrovnik to Žabljak · 260 km

A spectacular day awaits us. We ride all day on roads full of hairpins and curves, discovering Durmitor National Park, where you’ll admire an incredible landscape of glacial lakes, deep canyons and towering peaks.

Day 3 — Žabljak to Shkodër · 275 km

We ride through the Albanian Alps, on challenging roads with beautiful scenery, perfect for pictures. The dramatic mountain terrain here is some of the most rewarding riding in the Balkans.

Day 4 — Shkodër to Ohrid · 340 km

It’s easy to see why Lake Ohrid is called the Pearl of the Balkans — a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe. Take some time to explore the old town’s churches and narrow streets, or simply unwind at a lakeside restaurant.

Day 5 — Ohrid to Sarandë · 300 km

In the morning we cross back into Albania, a wild and beautiful country. We ride the most demanding mountains of the tour yet, the Gramoz Range, with snow-capped peaks over 2,500 meters high. On our way to Sarandë, we pass several bunkers, all built during the communist era.

Day 6 — Sarandë to Shkodër · 350 km

We start the day on the Ionian Coast, then ride toward Shkodër, with the sea on our left and the mountains on our right. The sight of the mountains meeting the Ionian Sea makes this stretch unforgettable.

Day 7 — Shkodër to Lovćen to Bay of Kotor to Dubrovnik · 252 km

Today we return to Montenegro. We ride all day on roads full of hairpins and curves through Lovćen National Park and around the breathtaking Bay of Kotor, then celebrate with our farewell dinner and share the highlights of our motorcycle tour.

Day 8 — Dubrovnik · Departure

We hope you enjoyed the tour, and we wish you a safe journey home. Transfer to the airport is included — until the next adventure.

Meine  beiden langjährigen Motorradkollegen und zwei sehr angenehme Motorradfahrer aus England bildeten unsere Gruppe.  Cristian und Doro haben unvorstellbares geleistet um uns jede Unannehmlichkeit zu ersparen. Die Tour ist perfekt abgestimmt,  sei es von der täglichen Distanz her,  Streckenwahl, Hotels.
