Hold onto your helmets, folks, because I just experienced a Romanian motorcycle adventure that’ll blow your socks off! Gear up as I recount the 1,700 km of pure bliss I shared with Cristian Dragan, the mastermind behind Moto Tours & Trainings in Bucharest.

Eight days of twisting and turning through Romania’s breathtaking landscapes felt like a wild, wonderful dream. We hit up mind-blowing historical sites (cue dramatic music), stuffed our faces with culinary masterpieces that would make Gordon Ramsay weep with joy, and, of course, conquered legendary roads like the Transfagarashan, Transalpina, and Transrarau.

If you ride an adventure bike, this offroad training will lay the foundation you need to ride anywhere with a new found confidence you would not believe possible before.
Cristian Drăgan is one of the best BMW Instructors I’ve met, he truly loves teaching and guiding and you feel it through every step of your evolution process.
His training will cover the most basic handling tips in the adventure park, to increasingly difficult tracks, based on your group level, always challenging you to improve.

My wife was my pillion, and she echoes my praise for you and the tour. We especially appreciated your efforts to help us in various situations, and you even carried our luggage a number of times, good one! We found you good company, and very informative about Romania’s history and venues.
The accommodation was all good and the Romanian beer was great. We enjoyed the great breakfasts and dinners too. The tour itself was great, the roads amazing, and the scenery stunning. I don’t think I will ever forget the Transalpina or Transfagarasan. I can’t wait to come back next year for another tour.
AS an aside, we spent over a week exploring Bucharest before the tour, this was time well spent and I recommend it to all who have long flights, as a way to overcome travel fatigue and generally relax in an awesome city for site seeing, dining and exploring the museums and art galleries.

Seit 20 Jahren starten wir jedes Jahr eine mehrtägige Tour mit den Zweirädern. Die Alpen vom Großglockner bis zum Col de la bonette, Kroatien, die Riviera, die Pyrenäen und auch Kalifornien und Arizona haben schon ihre Eindrücke bei uns hinterlassen. Trotz erheblicher Bauchschmerzen mich Werner davon überzeugt, auf den Spuren seines Vaters 2017 die Karpaten zu erobern. Zuverlässige Motorräder, guter Versicherungsschutz und eine detaillierte Tourenplanungen waren für uns wichtige Voraussetzungen. So waren wir in diesem Jahr mit “ride in romania” auf Tour. Unsere individuell geplante Rundreise war ähnlich der angebotenen “discover romania 2017 ” Tour.
Die Skepsis gegenüber Rumänien und den Rumänen war mit dem herzlichen Empfang, als Cristian uns am Flughafen abholte, schon weitestgehend verflossen. Ein Sparziergang durch Bukarest und die gute einheimische Küche und ein Bierchen ließen uns alle Vorbehalte vergessen.
Am nächsten Tag übernahmen wir die fast neuen und im besten Zustand befindlichen 1200er GS´en und starteten zur einer atemberaubenden Tour, die uns 10 Tage durch Karpaten bis in die Ukraine führte. Hochalpine Passstraßen führten uns auf knapp 3000 m und machten bei wenig Verkehr das Motorradfahren zum Erlebnis. Wunderschöne Städtchen mit mittelalterischem Charakter, die Schlösser und Burgen und beeindruckende Klosteranlagen hätten wir ohne Christian mit Sicherheit nicht alle gefunden. Auch die Unterkünfte, teils ländlich, teils im Städtchen haben uns hinsichtlich Komfort und Service jeden Abend positiv überrascht.
Egal wann, wir konnten das Motorradfahren und das Rahmenprogramm jederzeit genießen ohne uns mit weiteren Planungen und Suchen zu beschäftigen.
Um unseren Eindruck bildlich darzustellen! Man muss schon überlegen, ob die 12 Tage (2300 km) Karpaten schöner waren, als 21 Tage (5600 km) mit der Harley in Amerika. Rumänien trumpft mit seiner Kultur, wunderschöne Landschaft, sehr schöne Städtchen , gute Straßen, nette und freundliche Leute. Wir können auf jeden Fall wieder!!!

Mit Cristian bucht Ihr ein “Rundum sorglos Paket”. Er hat sich von der Landung bis zum Start in Bukarest mit seiner freundlichen Art um uns gekümmert. Seine Kenntnisse und Erfahrungen haben wesentlich dazu beigetragen, dass die Tour für uns zu einem unvergesslich Erlebnis wurde.

Thought I’d drop you a line to thank you for another amazing trip. The South East Europe Adventure tour was, as expected, more than I could have imagined. The amount of research you do to find the very best roads is incredible; whether testing my skills on the fast winding main routes or the tight hairpin bends up and down mountainsides, I had a big smile on my face all day long. The scenery along the way was breath-taking, all stops timed to perfection, and every restaurant and hotel had obviously been well selected. You clearly care for your machines, all of them motored through the entire trip without a hiccup. I am so glad I chose the XR, so much power with a riding position very similar to the GS, I would recommend it to anyone would prefers an in-line four. Although it’s a few days longer than the other tours, your organisation and planning made it very easy to get back on the road every morning looking forward to another exciting day’s riding.

Just wanted to write to thank you for another amazing tour. Each time I take a tour, I just find they just get better and better. This was another perfectly organised and brilliantly delivered tour. A great balance of riding all day and good food, drink and company all evening. The hotels on the South East Europe Adventure exceeded my expectations – a mixture of boutique city hotels, seaside resorts, out of season ski hotels and even a vineyard with wine tasting. From a pillion point of view, I loved the XR and was happy to ride on it all day – pretty useful after one particularly long day from Macedonia through the mountains to the coast in Albania . There’s too much to mention in a short email but I have memories which will last a lifetime. The amount of behind the scenes and pre tour work you go into is not lost on me, you have researched every road, hotel, restaurant, photographic opportunity and coffee stop and pass on fascinating information about the culture, cuisine and history of the places we visit. Another big thank you and I can’t wait to return to Romania for another tour next year. To anyone thinking of travelling with you, I’d say “just do it”.

Ich möchte mich nochmals bei Dir bedanken für die Super-Tour. Es hat super Spaß gemacht. Die Streckenführung, die Quartiere, die Etappenlängen, das Essen, die Gastfreundlichkeit und, und, und….wir haben viel gelacht und eine ganz neue Meinung von einem bis dahin fast unbekannten Land bekommen.

Took the Carpathian Mountain road tour with Cristian and it was first rate. Obviously the riding speaks for itself, but Cristian’s professionalism is next-level. He took the time to select the best roads (apparently he checks them out himself at the beginning of each season to confirm their good condition), nice boutique hotels, and selects en-route stops with great food — all in order to show the best Romania has to offer. The riding is challenging and rewarding. Overall a wonderful trip with beautiful views, interesting tour companions, and unforgettable memories. Nachdem ich im letzten Jahr mit Cristian Rumänien, die Karpaten, die alten Städte und wunderbaren Pässe genossen habe, dachte ich, dass ich dieses Jahr auf seine bestens gepflegten BMWs verzichten könnte und einfach mit meiner eigenen 1200er GSA fahren sollte. Für die 12 Tagestour durch die Berge des Balkans waren 8 Tage An- und Abreise eine schöne Ergänzung.
Somit konnte ich auch gleich die Vorzüge einer geführten Tour im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes erfahren. Die schönsten Straßen auf der Karte sind nicht unbedingt die besten. Es war ein tolles Erlebnis durch die Berge in Polen, Tschechien, Slowakei, Ungarn und Rumänien zu fahren, in der eigenen Geschwindigkeit, anzuhalten wo immer ein schönes Fotomotiv war und die Landschaft zu genießen. Die Straßen waren jedoch nicht immer im besten Zustand und so hatten die langen Federwege der Adventure doch kräftig zu schlucken.
In Bukarest angekommen wartete Cristian schon im Hotel auf mich und es war ein herzliches Wiedersehen. Das ist keine Routine, sondern echte persönliche Begeisterung. Und dann ging es in der kleinen Gruppe am nächsten Tag auch schon los. Weitere 5 Länder standen auf dem Programm. Von Rumänien über Serbien, Montenegro, Bosnien – Herzegowina und Kroatien wieder zurück nach Rumänien.
Es waren so viele und wunderschöne Eindrücke, dass eine Beschreibung aller täglichen Highlights Seiten füllen würde. Auf kleinsten Straßen, alle in besten Zustand, haben wir die Bergwelt erkundet. Mein Navi hatte oft keine Straße mehr angezeigt. Das Display war nur noch grün mit einem Pfeil, der sich verirrt zu haben schien. Auf kleinen und kleinsten Straßen, Singletracks ging es mit unzähligen Kurven und kaum Verkehr durch wundervolle Täler und tolle Gebirgslandschaften mit atemberaubenden Pässen. Immer ganz sportlich, da wurden die Reifen so richtig rund gefahren. Wenn die Gruppe ihn drängt kann er einen erheblichen Speed vorlegen. Ich habe letztes Jahr auch erlebt wie sehr er sich auf Gruppen einstellen kann, immer den Überblick behält und auch den letzten in der Gruppe nicht aus den Augen verliert. Das ist viel mehr als ein Guide, da ist ein Gefühl des Aufgehoben Seins. An den besten Ausblicken und Fotomotiven war immer der nächste kurze Fotostop. Ein echtes rundum sorglos Paket. Hinterherfahren und sich wohlfühlen.
Cristian kennt sich einfach bestens aus, hat die tollsten Straßen und spektakulärsten Landschaften so aneinander gereiht, dass einfach keine Wünsche mehr offen blieben. Engagiertes Fahren, Pausen zur rechten Zeit, an den richtigen Orten und ein Kaltgetränk bei der Ankunft in den Hotels, die ebenfalls bestens und liebevoll ausgesucht sind.
Ich hatte große Erwartungen, diese sind übererfüllt worden.

A journey into Eastern Europe has always been on our wish list especially Romania. After an internet search we found ‘Ride in Romania’ very appealing. It hit many places on the list: Transalpina and Transfagarasan mountain passes; Serbia; Bosnia & Herzegovina; Montenegro; and Croatia. Ten days riding with Cristian was perfect—not too fast, not too slow. We also wanted a small tour group, allowing for some flexibility with the itinerary. Cristian chose a route that passed through beautiful small villages and national parks with lots of twisties. Accommodations were very good, each with its own charm. The food and beer were outstanding and so was the company. We had a great experience exploring Eastern Europe and highly recommend ‘Ride in Romania’. See you on the next trip Cristian!

Seit mehr als 20 Jahren gehen wir 5, Fritz, Helmut, Manfred, Robert und Walter, gemeinsam auf Tour und haben schon viele Alpenpässe und Länder befahren. Die Kurven Griechenlands, der bekanntesten Mittelmeerinseln und Adriastrecken kennen wir, Frankreich, Spanien, Marokko, Südafrika haben wir unter die Räder genommen.
Rumänien, die Moldauklöster, die Bergstrecken, die Gebiete der eingewanderten Sachsen, wollten wir sehen und uns auf dieser Tour führen lassen.
Mit Christian Dragan von Ride in Romania haben wir einen Volltreffer gemacht. Mit Kompetenz, Fahrkönnen , Wissen um seine Heimat, Land und Leute führte er uns, quartierte uns in guten Hotels ein und kümmerte sich um all unsere Anliegen.
Die Tour ” Top of Romania” hat all das gehalten, was wir erwartet haben, Sehenswürdigkeiten, Straßen, die wirklich stoßdämpferbelastend sind, aber auch hervorragend ausgebaute Paßstraßen, wie die Transfagarasan und Transalpinaroad erinnernten uns an französische Alpenpässe.

We were a bunch of seven who ride in Bangalore,India and part of a motorcycle club called Bangalore Pandhi’s, one bright Sunday afternoon in the month of April, we decided that we should visit Romania and Hungary and started googling to check if can join a motorcycle tour or have one customised for us, we sent queries to motorcycle tour companies in Bucharest and Budapest with our requirements, we had a response in the next 2 hours from Ride in Romania, well, after a few email exchanges on the same day we decided that this is it.

During the following days Cristian was very responsive to our queries, very transparent on the pricing, the accommodation and route options and customised all this for us, we were very keen to ride on the Transfagarasan route and Cristian mentioned that it was closed during the time when we were there and said that he would explore to make it memorable and believe us it was indeed.

The day we landed in Bucharest, Cristian was there to receive us and transport us to the hotel where our panniers were waiting and went out of the way to explain the route, some of the challenges that we may face, in fact, we realised during dinner that he did a recce a day earlier to see if there are any options to ride on this route, this we think is beyond the call of duty.

The next day Cristian came over to pick us up to his office which is a little away from the city, which is a good thing considering the city traffic, we got to meet his lovely wife and beautiful daughter, checked our bike and we were on out way, the ride was very comfortably paced, with an average of about 250Km, frequent stops to soak up the natural beauty, great dining stops where each meal was a experience itself.

The first run was to Horezu which was quite an interesting run, was flat and was very scenic, here we visit an old monetary and after a bit of sightseeing, where Cristian was our guide and translator we retired for the night at an old mansion, which served us some great food and very specially a spread laid out for vegetarians, all along the trip our vegetarian buddies were taken care off, this we think is quite exceptional,the accommodation was outstanding, the next day after a hearty breakfast we headed further north to Sibiu, this ride was outstanding, with winding roads, great scenery and Cristian ensure that an easy pace was maintained and the run was outstanding,on the third day we headed towards Sighisoara and between, the Dracula’s castles and the landscape we were quite awestruck, we continue to ride and retired for the night at Bran, the next day was to visit a few more castles and headed back to Bucharest and the end of a very memorable trip.

We spent two nights at Bucharest and Cristian was kind enough to drop us off at the train station for the next leg of our travel.

We as a group have been travelling together for a long time and this trip figures as the best so far.
We give them 5Star’s and have no hesitation to recommend them.

Via l’hôtel où les motos nous attendent… Et visite de Bucarest. Cristian connait bien et c’est parfait ce qui présage du bon pour la randonnée!
Et en effet ces quelques 2700 km à travers le Pays ont été un régal, du roulage avec les bécanes, les visites, les hôtels, les repas… Christian merci pour ce séjour que nous ne serions que trop recommander pour découvrir la Roumanie avec un super guide. Au plaisir de t’accueillir chez nous avec ta petite famille…
Un seul regret …. Que ça passe vite !

What a fantastic experience. I have just come home from a 2 month stay in Romania and can say that my ride through the Carpathians was the outstanding highlight of a great trip.

Romania is a beautiful country and the mountains are spectacular. Cristian is an excellent guide with an extensive knowledge and love of Romanian culture and history. He was able to convey some of this to me and my riding companions while guiding us over km after km of fantastic motorcycling roads. His advice and supervision made adapting to local roads and driving habits very easy, allowing all to become confident in a strange environment. The pace of the ride was very comfortable and allowed each rider to do his own thing with no perception of a need to “keep up”. The distance of each days ride allowed many coffee stops and photo opportunities. The weather was a little unkind but didn’t really interfere with our enjoyment. The bikes were well maintained and very suitable for the conditions experienced. All the accommodation was comfortable and the food great. (Romanian food, wine and beer are an outstanding experience on their own.) Many an enjoyable hour was spent with my riding companions over a beer after dinner solving the worlds problems.

To anyone considering one of Cristian’s tours I can only say “Do it”, you won’t regret it. For me it seemed the most extended fun I have had in my 50 years of riding. My friends are probably weary of my constant references to the fantastic roads scenery and culture but I am trying to persuade some of them to come with me next year when I do another trip with Cristian next year.

nochmals ein ganz herzliches Dankeschön für die wunderbare Woche mit Dir in Rumänien und auf den Karpatenstraßen. Es war wirklich traumhaft.
Du warst derjenige, der immer für uns da war, die schönsten Straßen und Unterkünfte ausgesucht hat und sehr bedacht war, dass jeder in der Gruppe seine Individualität ausleben konnte.
Schon der Empfang am Flughafen nach Mitternacht und die Selbstverständlichkeit mit der Du immer für alle da warst hat ein sehr sicheres und aufgehobenes Gefühl erzeugt.
Dann die Motorräder; alle voll ausgestattet mit Topcase und Koffern, bestens gewartet und nicht älter als 3 Jahre, haben ein sicheres Gefühl vermittelt und Vorfreude auf die Tour aufkommen lassen.
Im Gegensatz zu meinen Vorstellungen haben sich die Straßen dann zum allergrößten Teil als in absolut bestem Zustand gezeigt. Da wären die GS dann bis auf wenige Ausnahmen gar nicht nötig gewesen, aber die sind ja für alle Verhältnisse bestens geeignet.
Und die Verhältnisse sind für jeden Motorradfahrer wirklich ideal. So viele Kurven pro km, so wenig Verkehr und so wenige Dörfer und Städte die das Vorankommen hätten behindern können, habe ich noch nirgends erlebt. Weit weg von den bekannten Pässen in den Alpen mit ihren Megastaus und mindest ebensolch atemberaubender Landschaft. Mittel- und Hochgebirge vom Feinsten. Wir hatten die ganze Zeit ein wirklich engagiertes Tempo, ohne den Langsamsten einfach hängen zu lassen. Es war immer klar, dass Du den Überblick hattest, Ich werde das immer wieder Aufstehen und Zurückblicken von Dir nicht vergessen, Du hast sogar kleine Probleme beim Letzten sofort gesehen und reagiert.
Einen Teil von Europa, der für mich bisher ganz weit weg war, auch wenn die deutsche Geschichte dort immer wieder wach wird, wie sich in den Städten, die wir in Ruhe angeschaut haben gezeigt hat, zu erleben und die Entwicklung dort zumindest erahnen zu können war ein zusätzlicher Anreiz.
Nach ausgefüllten Tagen dann in tollen Unterkünften mit jeweils ganz eigenem Charakter zu nächtigen war dann der jeweils krönende Abschluss.
Ich hätte es mir nicht besser wünschen können

Just wanted to write following a second excellent tour. One never knows when having had such a great experience if a second time can match it. I can say with certainty that it did.
The planning and research which must have gone into the itinerary, combined with your excellent tour leading, made for a first rate experience of exploring this fascinating region. The whole tour did what an holiday should and work/home/etc seemed to have been left far behind. Waking up and saying “remind me, which country are we in?” was a testament to the variety each day presented and possibly our growing appreciation of some of the local beers.
Thanks to your knowledgeable leadership we could piece together our woefully sketchy understanding of the Yugoslav wars and gain an understanding of the diversity of the various nations.
The group of 9, from 4 countries, quickly gelled and we felt as if we had known each other for years. Being the only pillion for the second time, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed the mountain roads, national parks, the banks of the Danube, the coastline and diverse scenery through which we rode. Its great to know that Europe still has such remote and wild areas.
To sum up, the tour combined a real sense of adventure with the knowledge that we were in professional and safe hands.

Herzlichen Dank für die wunderschönen unvergesslichen 13 Tage und die 2800 km lange Reise durch den Balkan. Unsere bunt zusammengewürfelte Gruppe von 9 Personen aus 4 Nationen hat sich gleich zu Beginn gut zusammengefunden und es wurde von Tag zu Tag freundschaftlicher und herzlicher.
Deine Motorräder waren allesamt in sehr gutem Zustand und bestens gewartet, was zu keinem einzigen technischen Problem während der Tour führte.
Die Reise war von Beginn bis zum Schluss von Dir bestens geplant und es gab nicht das Geringste zu beanstanden. Die Auswahl der Hotels und Restaurants war sehr gut. Du hast uns nicht nur die schönsten und teilweise auch sehr schwierigen Bergstraßen gezeigt, sondern uns auch kulturelle Plätze mit geschichtlichem Hintergrund nahe gebracht. Von den vielen Fotostopps ganz zu schweigen. Du versuchst jeden auch noch so ausgefallenen Wunsch, wie zum Beispiel ein Foto einer bestimmten Ortstafel, zu erfüllen.
Du bist der Erste in der Früh und der Letzte am Abend, du schaust nach den Motorrädern, kümmerst dich um den Check-In in den Hotels und um das erste Bier nach einem langen, sehr heißen Tag am Motorrad.
Du hast es geschafft uns den Alltag mit all seinen Problemen vergessen zu lassen und uns zu einem anstrengenden, aber trotzdem sehr erholsamen Urlaub verholfen.
Vielen Dank für deinen unermüdlichen Einsatz und wir freuen uns jetzt schon auf den nächsten Motorradurlaub mit Dir!!

When I arrived home last night, my wife had warmly welcomed me back with an iced glass of my favourite Japanese lager. I shared it with her, but truth be told, my heart wasn’t into it. It wasn’t just the same without the feeling of being sticky, sweaty, and salty, peeling off gear in the baking heat of the Balkans after a long, glorious day of riding.

This morning, too, I woke up just before 6am – the ghost of a practical joke haunting me – and made a pot of coffee. Alone, I worked my way through it, reflecting on how odd the sensation was of not sharing the intimate, disorienting moments of the morning with a group of strangers who’d become treasured travelling companions.

I suspect that the normalcy of life will return in time, but the incredible luxury of not knowing what day it is or what country I’m in, with my only responsibilities being keeping the bike on two wheels and maintaining a thirst for end-of-day beers, is a hard sensation to let go of.

I tried to describe what it was like to ride through majestic vistas and sweeping mountain roads of the five countries to my wife. (She’s very patient with my stories). The challenge I had, however, is that it’s hard to sum up such an incredible experience and encapsulate it into simple words. How to describe the sudden cool moisture and dappled light of a forrest road after hours of baking sunlight in full armour? Or the gleeful (somewhat guilty) experience of cue-jumping 7 kilometres of cars to get through a border control? Or turning a hard corner and seeing a breathtaking landscape open up? Words exist for such things, but they don’t do the living of them any justice…

Thank you all for being such wonderful companions, skilled riders, and good natured partners in this tour. Thank you Cristian for the endless things you did (often out of sight) to make it so that our experience riding through the Balkans was consistently sensational and without concern or worry.

We joined the tour coming from Lebanon with some apprehensions. We left Romania at the end with some regrets.
Cristian was amazing, the sceneries were incredible, roads and machines in perfect shape. We discovered a beautiful country, a nature almost virgin, people very welcoming. In summary, we had great moments.

Die Tour mit Ride in Romania durch Transsilvanien und die Karpaten ist wohl mit das Beste und Interessanteste was man mit dem Motorrad in Europa machen kann. Die Tour Organisation mit Cristian von Ride in Romania ist vorbildlich. Großartige Straßen, gute Hotels, gut gepflegte Motorräder. Man muss nicht immer auf Karte oder Navi schauen um die Wegstrecke zu suchen, wir konnten uns rein aufs Fahren und die tollen Landschaften konzentrieren. Die Gebirgsstraßen Transalpina und Transfagarsan sprechen schon allein für sich und waren ein geniales Fahrerlebnis. Nebenbei konnten wir auch noch viel interessantes auf dem Land, der Historie, politischen Wandel und den Menschen in Rumänien mitnehmen.
Ich kann diese Tour und RIDE IN ROMANIA uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen!!!!!

Just spent 12 days on this tour. It was absolutely fabulous. Cristian is a fantastic guide, and has the patience of a saint..tending to every group member’s needs. His knowledge of local history, and geography is unrivalled. The accommodation and eating points organised were always of a high standard. We can definitely recommend this trip to all levels of bikers and their pillion passengers.

When we told friends and family that we were going on a motorcycle trip around Romania there response was ‘why?’ To which we would reply, ‘Because we wanted to ride in Romania and travel through the Transfagarasan & the Transalpina Pass one of the best riding roads in the world’. They thought we were mad. And so we did. That is Ride in Romania including both passes. What an adventure, 10 days riding around Romania with a great group of people (4 Australians and 2 token English people) plus Cristian the company owner and tour guide, riding through the towns ,villages, up and down mountains and valleys through the gouges up and down both passes, the riding experience / challenges were excellent, not to mention the scenery it was beautiful. The BWM bikes Christian provided were up to the task and worked well once you get used to driving on the wrong side of the road (right hand side that is). Overall, the entire trip was well organised, professionally run and Cristian’s hospitality irreproachable. Cristian’s personal touch to everything we believe is what really made the tour special.
Christian once again we both enjoyed ourselves very much and without a doubt we would highly recommend this tour to anyone that wants a unique riding experience.

We appreciated that you were a friendly,flexible and a relaxed guide and would highly recommend you to anyone wanting to ride in your fascinating country.Thanks also for sharing your extensive knowledge of the history of the many castles and medieval cities that we visited. We hope to tour with you again in the not too distant future.

After surfing the net for guided motorcycle tours I came across “Ride in Romania”, what a professional gem this turned out to be. The tour prices were very reasonable and reading the route taken on the Carpathian Mountain tour, which included the world famous Transfagarsan Pass we just had to go. Cristian the tour Owner sent me some email addresses of previous customers, when I contacted them they couldn’t speak highly enough of him and his professionalism. That was it, were booking, deposits paid and flights booked with Easy jet at a reasonable price as it was so early. We had an extra day after the tour finished to see some of the many interesting places in Bucharest.
We chose the BMW 1200GS on a recommendation and a good choice this turned out to be, all the bikes are well prepared and have enough luggage space for rider and pillion.
Once away from Bucharest and out of the heavy traffic I began to feel more relaxed riding along at a steady speed and enjoying the beautiful countryside and villages, the children running out and give you the twisting throttle sign, Cristian explained that they want you to rev the engine mainly for the loud sport bike type exhaust note.
Unfortunately the weather was against us and it rained every day at some point even with thunder and lightening. Cristian always said our safety comes first when he stopped near the top of the Transalpina pass to put his 4 way flasher on for us to follow, 5 bike lengths behind him and the lights were hardly visible through the rain and clouds. As expected Cristian is an excellent rider always checking his mirrors and looking behind to check we were both alright.
The unusual weather didn’t dampen our spirits as we were having a great time, going up the Transfagarsan pass and stopping just before the top with snow on the verges Cristian took a picture of my dash display reading 6 degrees, he then admitted that it was the worst conditions that he had ever been over the pass and he’s done it many times.
All the hotels on tour, some with swimming pools, are of an excellent quality and the restaurants’ whether in the hotel or a local one have extensive menus and good quality food; there would definitely be something for everyone. Strong beer was only £1 a bottle but you have to be careful how many you have in the evening as Romania is zero tolerance on drink driving laws, we were on the road at 09.00 am each day.
All along the tour we had stops at various places either to take pictures, visit sites or just to have a break and chat. Lunches were in roadside cafes or restaurants’ where we had lovely homemade soups and bread. If you’ve got this far you probably have guessed we had the adventure biking holiday of a life time, if your thinking about doing it, DO IT, you will not be disappointed with Cristians hospitality. We thought long and hard before finally deciding to book this tour and we are so glad we did. From our first email, Christian replied straight away, answering all our questions and the booking was easy and straight forward. This tour exceeded all our expectations; although it rained most days, it did not dampen our spirits and made it more of an adventure. Christian looked after us “oldies” often keeping the bike upright to help our wives get their “legs over” the panniers and top boxes, which they were not used to. It was a very enjoyable ride, and as there were only the four of us, it was good to have Christian to ourselves. The bikes were very well maintained and a pleasure to ride. The food and hotels were great, and Linda especially enjoyed the pool at the Wolf Hotel. Ann was very impressed with the Mansion House and would have liked to stay longer. We did not think we would be having “snowball” fights in June, with temperatures barely above freezing, but even though we had a good soaking on more than one occasion it was a very enjoyable experience. The riding pace was just right, so we had plenty of opportunity to see the Romanian countryside and our wives loved passing through all the local villages. We had plenty of comfort stops for refreshments, and to stretch our legs; the route was planned just right so that we were able to see the real Romania and rural life and historical buildings.
We would highly recommend this tour to our friends or anyone else thinking of doing this and would seriously consider another tour with Ride in Romania as it was very good value for money.

On Huhtikuun loppu 2014. Lennämme 6 henkilön voimin Suomesta Romaniaan ja arvuuttelemme ajokelejä. Jo vuosia hyvä onni on ollut puolellamme kelien kanssa. Sekä kelit että palvelu olivat hyviä kuten viime vuonna kun viimeksi olimmeajamassa vuotuista kevät ajoamme. Tämä oli siis toinen vierailumme Romaniaan Cristianin asiakkaaksi. Tällä kertaa emme ajaneet vuoristossa kuten viime vuonna, vaan esitimme toiveen käydä Mustan Meren rannalla. Matka suuntautui Bukarestista Constantaniin ensimmäisenä päivänä, jatkuen siiltä toisena päivänä etelään Bulkarian puolelle Nessebariin. Kaksi ensimmäistä päivää olivat melko tasaisia maastoja mutta näimme Romanialaista ja Bulgarialaista elämää eri kulmasta. Kolmantena päivänä saimme maistella hieman mutkatietä ja vuoristoa kun ajoimme takaisin Bukarestiin. Reissumme oli ohin kolmessa päivässä ja mittariin kertyi n. 1000 km. Oli aika palata takaisin Suomeen ja jälleen hyvin mielin. Kaikki meni loistavasti josta iso kiitos Cristianin järjetelyille ja hyvälle kalustolle.

It’s end of April 2014. We flight with 6 people from Finland to Romania and tried to guess forecast. The weather has been good past years when we have been driving the yearly ride somewhere in European. Both weather and services were good on this year like it was also at last year. This was the second visit in Romania and ride with Cristian. This time we didn’t ride in mountains like last year, but we had a wish to ride to beach of Black Sea. The trip started from Bucharest to Constanta at first day and continued to Bulgarian Nessebar at the second day. These two days include quite a flat terrain but we knew that. The journey gave us an interesting cross-section about Romanian life. The third day was in Bulgaria/Romania mountains and we enjoy curved roads before Bucharest. The trip was over after three days and 1000 km. It was time to fly back to Finland with good feelings and experience.

Cristian motoruyla Turkiyeyi de gezdiginden hem ulkemizin kulturune asina hem de kendi motorunuzla gelmek istediginizde guzergah ve formaliteler onusunda cok yardimci olabilir. Cristian turla ilgisi olmayan bircok kisisel istekte de son derece yardimci oluyor. Motor tutkunlari icin mutlaka tecrube edilmesi gereken bir seyahat. The tour organisation was excellent. Cristian owns the company and he himself guides the tour. All the bikes are in good condition. I rode a BMW F650 twin and enjoyed it very much. The hotels we stayed were the best hotels in their region. The tour is very well organised. No rush. Meeting with fellow riders from other nations also makes the tour special. Cristian personally handles all the requests and does his best to make the riders happy.
I highly recommend the tour looking forward to meeting Cristian in another trip.

Meine Bike-Woche in Rumänien war ein tolles Erlebnis. Ich habe den individuellen Trip mit dem Bike ans Schwarze Meer und die Donaumündung ebenso genossen wie die 5 Tagestour durch die Karpaten. Mein Bike war in einem sehr guten Zustand und die Hotels waren sauber und komfortabel. Besonders das Herrenhaus (Mansion) ist natürlich herauszuheben. Der Mix zwischen biken und Sightseeing war sehr angenehm und ich kann die Tour und Rumänien als Ferienland auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen.< br />Herzlichen Dank und Dir alles Gute!

Thanks again for the exiting and well organized tour through your country. You did an excellent job in terms showing us exiting areas of Romania, having the right balance between normal and challenging roads, giving us interesting information about histories, politics and economic environment. Hotels and Restaurants you took us to were good to excellent.

I admit that after seeing the episode of Top Gear featuring the Transfagarasan road several years ago I decided then that I wanted go there myself. After some research I discovered Ride in Romania and decided to finally go.
Wow what a trip….
It was a whole lot more than I imagined. I found the tour was well organised yet flexible and the riding.. the riding was amazing..
I loved the fact that we went more out of the way through smaller villages and the children would wave as we rode past.I knew very little about Romania and only really knew of the Transfagarasan road as I had seen on TV but it seemed that everyday there was a new adventure and ‘perfect’ riding experience. Every time I thought the country couldn’t get any more beautiful it would surprise me and prove me wrong..
I traveled by myself and was pleased to find I would be riding with some nice people from Germany.
What can I say . Thanks Dragan Cristian for putting together a great tour package and looking after us all so well.I had an really great time and enjoyed making new friends.
If anyone is looking for an incredible holiday I recommend going on one of these tours.

Nothing could have prepared me for the experience I enjoyed with the “Ride in Romania” tour, after spending a week climbing the thrilling mountain roads, and rumbling through local towns and villages, I was privileged to experience the beauty of true Romania, not seen by normal tourists. It was easy to fall in love with any of the bikes along the way, all beautifully maintained to a high standard. I take away a love for the country and people, better riding skills, and new friends from other Nations that I was privileged to ride with. This was my first time with Ride in Romania, but certainly not my last!

Thanks for the perfect trip and your good job as a ‘scout’ for the best biking roads. I think it ‘s years since I had such a hot wheel riding! We both enjoyed the riding as well as the good atmosphere and the extreme nice people we had in the group. I’m happy that Nick could attend us and experience our multi national biker-community! I’m sure he learned a lot for life, thanks to all!
It has been my first time to Romania and I loved what I saw! The countryside, mountains, the villages and the people made us feel at home quick and the desire to come again and see more of your beautiful home is very present. I found important to write this email, few days after the July 2013 Carpathian tour is finished and say a good word about the organization, the tour and the wonderful atmosphere surrounding the tour.
I was very satisfied from all meanings, the motorcycle, the hotels, the food and the route. I will certainly recommend to others to try this experience, and considering join another tour, next year.

herzlichen Dank für die tollen 10 Tage und 2400 Km durch Rumänien. Es wird mir und da spreche ich auch für unsere 16 Köpfige Biker Gruppe ein unvergessliches Erlebnis bleiben. Du hast uns mit deiner so unkomplizierten schönen Art Rumänien so viel näher gebracht. Ob nun die rumänische Geschichte, die unterschiedlichen Kulturkreise, die Schlösser oder auch lustigen Friedhöfe du konntest zu allem sehr anregende und bildliche Geschichten beitragen. Deine ausgewählten Hotels, mit oder ohne Pool, waren einfach hervorragend ausgesucht und gaben ein gesundes Mix von Rumänien wieder. Dieses gelang Dir auch hervorragend Essenstechnisch und im speziellen mit dem Grundbedürfnis eines jeden Biker’s, den Getränken. Das bei jeder Tages- Ankunft im Hotel ein Bier bereitstand davon mal ganz abzusehen!
Deine Mietmotorräder sind in einem tadellosen Zustand und bei kleineren Pannen unserer eigenen mitgebrachten Motorräder hattest Du immer eine Lösung für das entsprechende Problem parat. Somit konnten wir die rumänischen Straßen, ob nun mit oder ohne Schlaglöcher, in vollen Zügen genießen.
Kurz gesagt Cristian, alles hat hervorragend geklappt Dank deinem unermüdlichen Einsatz.

Dies war bereits meine zweite Tour mit Cristian “das alleine ist ja schon Bewertung genug”. Erneut konnte ich an einer perfekt durchorganisierten Tour auf hervorragend gewarteten Motorrädern teilnehmen. Es war wieder die Summe der grossen und kleinen Dinge, wie mich auch dieses Mal wieder begeistert hat. Das beginnt mit den ausgesuchten Straßen: Wenig befahren, kurvenreich und mitten durch wunderschöne Gebirgslandschaften. Das geht weiter über die ausgesuchten Hotels, die allesamt über einen sehr guten Standard verfügten und setzt sich fort in einer urlaubsfreundlichen Tagesplanung mit genügend Stopps an schönen Punkten. Und auch solche Kleinigkeiten wie ausreichend große Gepäckssysteme machen das Reisen angenehm. Zudem hat Christian mit seiner hilfsbereiten und entspannten Art genau die Charakterzüge, die man sich bei einem Reiseleiter wünscht. Ich bin fest entschlossen mindestens noch so oft mitzumachen, bis ich alle Touren gefahren bin.

Several years ago I visited Romania for the first time and was very impressed, I knew I would have to return for another visit but this time I wanted to tour the country by motorcycle. This goal became my holiday priority. I researched various motorcycle tour operators and found “Ride in Romania” offered the tour route that fitted the areas I wanted to visit and more. I contacted them and quickly got a response back, my tour of the Balkans was set. I was not disappointed from the start; the communication prior to the trip was excellent, the lodgings chosen were wonderful and routes selected were the perfect mix. Especially the Transalpina and Transfagarasan Roads, absolutely breathtaking, this is not to say the mountain roads of Montenegro and Serbia were anything less but Transalpine and Transfagarasan Roads were by far the best and amazingly beautiful.
I highly recommend “Ride in Romania” for you next motorcycle holiday and I am looking forward to my next Holiday with them too.

Tänä vuonna (2013) olimme MC Kiiruksen perinteisellä helatorstai reissulla Romaniassa. Aiempina vuosina olemme tehneet reissun johonkin päin Eurooppaa omilla moottoripyörillä, mutta tänä vuonna päätimme lentää Romaniaan ja suorittaa ajelut vuokrapyörillä. Näin säästimme useita päiviä ja pitkät siirtymät
Siellä yhteyshenkilömme oli vuokraamoyrittäjä Cristian Dragan, joka hoiti kaikki ennakkovalmistelut erittäin hienosti; hotellivaraukset, reittisuunnittelu ja lentokenttäkuljetukset toteutettiin sujuvasti. Totta kai pääsimme osallistumaan itsekin reitin suunnitteluun sähköpostin välityksellä. Lisäksi hän tarjoutui lähtemään mukaamme oppaaksi ja sitä suosittelen kyllä muillekin.
Vuokrapyörät olivat pääasiassa BMW:n Gessuja, 650:siä ja 1200:sia, kohtuullisen tuoreita ja hyväkuntoisia, eikä vuokra juuri hirvittänyt. Kävimme kolmen päivän aikana paikoissa ja teillä, jonne emme olisi edes eksymällä päätyneet. Oikeastaan ainoa miinus oli valitsemamme ajankohta; Transilvanian Alpeilla ja Karpaattien vuoristossa osa vuorten yli menevistä teistä oli vielä suljettu – sinällään ymmärrettävää, koska matkamme katkesi pariin kertaan lumirajalle, jolloin matkan jatkamiseen olisi tarvittu vähintään tehokas moottorikelkka.
Maisemat olivat hienoja ja tiestökin pääosin hyväkuntoista. Täytyy myöntää, että oli todella hyvä päätös ottaa Cristian oppaaksi, muuten meillä saattaisi olla muutama maksulappu, mutta ehkä ei ajokorttia kesän koitoksiin; virkavaltaa esiintyi aika tiheästi ja suorittivat jotain kummallisia mittauksia… Onneksi oppaamme tiesi yleisimmät esiintymäpaikat ja myös vastaantulijat osasivat varoittaa esiintymistä. Totta kai vierailimme muutamassa turistikohteessa (mm. Drakulan linna) ja nautimme paikallisia herkkuja.
Kaiken kaikkiaan, onnistunut ja hieno reissu; Kiitokset Cristianille!Ja aikaa meni reilu neljä vuorokautta, jossa oli 3 hyvää ajopäivää, kilometrejä n. 1000.
Suosittelemme; mielikuvamme Romaniasta oli etukäteen hieman epäilevä, mutta parani reissun aikana huomattavasti. Matkailu avartaa…

The Dracula Castle, fine tradition and painted monasteries tour, was exactly what we were looking for. We liked the mix of visiting historical sites, learning the history of Romania, seeing great scenery and riding really great mountain roads. We are looking forward to our next trip back to Romania!

Cristian, I really enjoyed the mc tour. Before I came, I was kind of apprehensive about your country. I did a fair amount of research but was still uncertain about what I was getting into. Your hospitality upon arrival and the accommodations in Bucharest really laid the groundwork for a great nine days. Everything was good, the accommodations, food and your country. The lodging was well planned and quite comfortable, the meals were excellent, and the itinerary was a well planned mix of scenery and experiences. This was by far the most enjoyable experience I have ever had on a motorcycle. Romania is truly a beautiful country and just perfect for touring by motorcycle. The Transalpina road was my favorite with the Transfagarasan road a close second! Cristian was a great host, tour guide and riding partner. I felt like I was riding with a friend from home. Everything was well planned, from the road selections to the accommodations.I recommend this tour to all riders looking for some real adventure!

Amazing 5 days with spectacular road, landscape, country village and of course a professional guide Cristian who was always looking for the best. Was really above of my expectation so i would recommend to all the riders of the world.

I’ve been riding 45 years and this was my most enjoyable ride. The routes, the scenery the people both in our group and Romanians in general were great. I loved there culture and country.

My only complaints are it was too short.

Would just like to tell you how much I enjoyed our Dracula Castle, fine tradition and painted monasteries tour. I had never done anything like this before and indeed had barely been on a motorbike prior to this tour, but luckily for me was pursuaded by my other half I would love it. 2000kms of riding pillion later, I could have happily done the whole thing all over again. However this was in large part to your excellent skills as a tour leader. The blend of culture, riding and fun was perfect.
We couldn’t have been with a nicer bunch of people or travelled with a better company. I would recommend Ride in Romania unreservedly to anyone wishing to see your fascinating and welcoming country from the back of a bike. Too many highlights to list but I guess the Transfaragasan must have been one (especially after you taught us all to say it!). The whole tour was excellent value and your choice of hotels and food was a credit to your organisational skills and care for your customers.
I’m looking forward to 2014 when we are planning on joining you on the Inside the Balkan Mountains tour.

“Die Tour mit Cristian von „Ride in Romania“ war ein tolles Erlebnis. Wir hatten einfach mal ein paar Motorradtage ohne größere Erwartungen gebucht. Rumänien haben wir dabei eher zufällig als Ziel entdeckt und uns für die 11tägige Tour „Schlösser und Klöster Rumäniens“ angemeldet.
Umso begeisterter waren wir am Ende der Tour. Alles verlief perfekt und weit besser als wir es uns erhofft hatten. Mit Cristian Dragan hatten wir nicht nur einen motorradbegeisterten Reiseleiter. Er hatte uns auch immer alle im Auge und passte die Geschwindigkeit super der Gruppe an. Seine sympathische Art schaffte gleich zu Anfang eine nette Atmosphäre so dass sehr schnell aus dem internationalen Häuflein (ein Amerikaner, zwei Briten, zwei Deutsche und Cristian) ein starkes Team wurde. Die Motorräder waren in gutem Zustand und wurden während der Tour sorgfältig von Ihm betreut. Die angefahrenen Hotels waren alle sehr gut ausgewählt, komfortabel und schön gelegen. Sehr gelungen war die Mischung aus Motorradstrecken, Landschaften und kulturellen Sehenswürdigkeiten. Jeder kam auf seine Kosten ohne überlastet zu werden. Sehr angenehm empfanden wir seine Art, uns seine Heimat näherzubringen. Er liebt sein Land und dessen kulturelles Erbe, welches viel reichhaltiger ist, als wir erwartet hätten. Dabei hat er aber auf jede kitschige Folkloreromantik verzichtet. In den ganz seltenen Fällen, dass er irgendeine Spezialfrage nicht beantworten konnte, verschaffte es sich sofort die nötigen Informationen.
Uns hat es super gefallen. Wir würden uns gerne wieder einer Tour mit Cristian anschließen und können ihn jedem nur vorbehaltlos empfehlen.”

I just wanted to say a big thank you for guiding and looking after us all so well on the “Dracula Castle, fine tradition and painted monasteries” tour. Any expectation that I may have had was well and truly met. You are a fine man with an obvious passion for his country and a love of motorcycling. The pace of our trip was ideal, and the roads you chose were not only perfect for the bikes, but also took us through amazing scenery and to fabulous locations. Everywhere we stayed, we were greeted by friendly hosts with plentiful food and drink, and comfortable beds!
I’m lost to find something negative to comment about. I cannot recommend you and your tours highly enough; for anyone thinking about doing something a bit different and maybe going somewhere they probably hadn’t considered before, then Transylvania with Ride In Romania should be at the top of their list.

Communication was good, clear and prompt including replies to initial inquiries. Pick-up and drop-off service was timely and fully flexible. Support during the road-trip was well-prepared (with your mobile phone supplied to us) although not required which was great. Any small problems getting going were attended to immediately and with good cheer. Local knowledge of the area was complete and more than sufficient and we found it very helpful. Additional assistance (such as hotel accommodation after the trip) was given easily and quickly and was very efficient. If I do another trip to Romania, I will have no hesitation booking through your company.
I would also happily recommend you to anyone else considering a similar trip.

Ich möchte mich bei dir bedanken, dass alles so gut Funktioniert hat.Wir hatten sechs sehr schöne und Interessante Tage in Rumänien.Als meine Freunde und ich uns Gedanken über unsere jährliche Motorradtour für 2012 machten, meinte Daniel ob wir nicht nach Transsylvanien fahren sollten, so als eine Art Abenteuerurlaub.Da wir maximal sechs Tage Zeit hatten, kam die Variante, mit dem eigenen Motorrad zu fahren nicht in Frage. Wir wollten ja was vom Land sehen, und nicht insgesamt vier Tage im Flachland von Salzburg über Ungarn nach Rumänien fahren.Nach einigen Recherchen im Internet fanden wir die Adresse deiner Firma.Die Reservierung war sehr unkompliziert.Deine Infos für mögliche Touren waren für unsere Planung sehr hilfreich.Wir kamen am 16.Mai um ca. 23h00 Ortszeit am Flughafen in Bukarest an, und wurden wie ausgemacht von dir abgeholt und ins vorreservierte Hotel gebracht.Nachdem wir eingecheckt hatten brachtest du uns noch ins nahegelegene Zentrum.Am nächsten Tag um 9h00 wurden wir pünktlich von dir abgeholt, und zu den Motorrädern gebracht, wo wir auch die ganzen Formalitäten erledigten.Für Notfälle bekamen wir noch ein Handy mit Rumänischer Wertkarte, von dem wir dich jederzeit (24 Stunden am Tag) anrufen hätten können.Wir sind froh, dass wir das jedoch nicht brauchten.Nachdem wir unsere Sachen von den Reisekoffern in die Motoradkoffer umgepackt hatten ging es los.Bei unserer Tour legten wir nicht so viele Kilometer zurück wie geplant, was aber hauptsächlich daran lag, das wir für die Besichtigung der Sehenswürdigkeiten länger als geplant benötigten.Außerdem waren wir von der weite und Schönheit der Landschaft so begeistert, sodass wir mehrere Stopps Unterwegs einlegten.Die Rückgabe der Motorräder war genauso unkompliziert wie die Abholung.Wir möchten uns noch einmal bei dir Bedanken.

Price was cheap, hotels were good picks, and the route was well planned and rehearsed. The great riding on the Transfagarasan and Transalpina was the highlights for me! All in all, Cristian is very friendly and goes out of his way to take care of everything for you on this vacation. I like to know about the area I’m riding through and some of the history of the local area, and Cristian was very knowledgeable. Would recommend him to those looking to ride in Romania!

Hi Christian, Your tour was a great sample of a beautiful country. We were all surprised how great Romania is. The roads were all well maintained, the country side awesome and the people friendly. Now I appreciate why the Transfagarasan Highway lets your country lay claim to the best twisters in the world. That road is what brought us there and it was worth it. Wir hatten eine tolle Tour in den südlichen Karpaten mit schönen Strecken und guten Unterkünften. Es hat alles gepasst und gibt nichts auszusetzen. Deine freundliche, unkomplizierte Art und Weise haben erheblich dazu beigetragen, dass die Tour ein so tolles Erlebnis für uns wurde.
